‘ALDUB’ FEVER BREAKS NEW MILESTONE
Latest episode breaches 10M mark
Fans all over the world were left hanging onto their seats yesterday as the first date of “Eat Bulaga’s” love team Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza a.k.a Yaya Dub, collectively known as ‘AlDub,” ended in a cliffhanger.
The much-awaited episode breached the 10-million barrier in tweets, setting a new world record in Tweeter. As of 4:30 p.m., the hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate was tweeted more than 10.7 million times by fans, easily beating its own mark of 6.37 million tweets last week.
The television phenomenon drew millions of television viewers. One photo posted on Facebook showed a barber shop interrupting its service to give way to the episode. The sign read: “Mamaya pa ang gupit after Aldub!!!”
Even before the episode started, tweets already came pouring, registering 3.6 million. It was just a matter of time before the number reached over 10 million.
Since it was announced that Alden and Yaya Dub will have their first date, fans waited in keen anticipation.
Just when fans thought that the two have finally reached the ‘tamang panahon’ (right time), it wasn’t smooth sailing for the two onscreen lovebirds.
Before they could have their date inside the Broadway Centrum, Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) appeared, breaking their onscreen chemistry, saying that she had to test first if the two were really made for each other by asking them a series of 10 questions.
Lola Nidora said that the two have to give the same answer in order for them to advance until they meet. Nidora, Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros), and Tinidora (Jose Manalo), made them choose between eyes or lips, ring or necklace, sweet or spicy, and now or forever.
But the audience and netizens went wild when Lola Nidora asked them to choose between the heart and the mind. The two answered “Pareho. Iyon ang na- tutunan ko kay Lola (Both. That’s what I learned from Lola),” which made the main antihero glad as the two are now finally learning something from her.
However, when the two finally met, they were separated by the long table. They tried to approach each other, but Lola Nidora’s lifesize cardboard cutout served as their reminder that they shouldn’t once again break their trust.
The two exchanged sweet glances and dubsmashed popular love songs while eating Maine’s favorite isaw.
However, the moment was spoiled when Yaya Dub’s alarm sounded off, reminding her that Lola should take her medicine. It turned out that Yaya Dub forgot to leave Lola Nidora’s medicine to her sisters.
Yaya Dub hurriedly left the dinner table and returned to Lola Nidora.
Fans and even Lola Nidora didn’t want the date to end so early but Yaya Dub had already jumped inside the car which sped off to Lola Nidora’s location.
But everyone froze when a loud crash was heard from Yaya’s end.
Since their pairing accidentally started on July 16, AlDub has been getting attention from netizens, gaining large number of tweets, and even fans from the rival show.
Over the past few weeks, AlDub has been breaking Twitter record. It broke the recorded number of tweets when Pope Francis visited the Philippines (three million tweets) and last week, it broke the number of tweets recorded by “Love Wins” with 6.37 million against the around six million tweets recorded by the latter.
AlDub has also pushed “Eat Bulaga” to lead the ratings game.
The love team also closed two endorsement deals from a popular fast food chain, and a major cellphone service provider.
Even Microsoft Philippine and Disney Studios Philippines wittingly rode the boat carried by the AlDub wave.
