Mom high on kills drugs baby

A 10-month-old baby was stabbed to death by her own mother, a confessed drug addict, Friday in Quezon City, police said yesterday.

The Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit identified the suspect as Piavera Sarmiento, 28, of Bicol St., Barangay Payatas B.

Senior Insp. Elmer Monsalve, chief of the QCPD-CIDU homicide section, said Sarmiento admitted that she stabbed her daughter while she was high on drugs.

Case investigator PO2 Jim Barayoga said Sarmiento confessed that she is a drug addict that her husband, Rosauro, confirmed. Rosauro bared that sometimes he and his wife even use illegal drugs together.

Barayoga said that the victim was naked when Sarmiento stabbed her repeatedly using a bread knife.

“Hindi niya alam kung ano ang ginagawa niya dahil lango nga raw siya sa droga at nang mahimasmasan saka siya nagsisisigaw ng tulong,” Barayoga said.

A witness Isidro Balde heard Sarmiento cursing at 5:30 p.m. and after a while saw her running out from her house carrying the victim who was already bloodied.

Police said that Sarmiento was able to seek the help of barangay officials who brought Aira to the hospital but she was declared dead on arrival.

Rosauro, who is a garbage collector, was out for work when the incident happened. Their oneyear-old child, Sarmiento, and the victim were the only ones inside their shanty while their six other children were outside.

Police said the victim sustained multiple stab wounds.

A parricide case is set to be filed against Sarmiento, Monsalve said.
