DUTERTE: I MIGHT DECIDE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT
Three weeks after he decided to seek reelection instead of running for president in next year’s elections, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he might just decide to run for the highest position in the land if the Filipino people continue to be victims of oppression.
DAVAO CITY – Three weeks after he decided to seek a reelection instead of running for president in next year’s elections, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte made a remarkable statement yesterday that made his believers and supporters jubilant.
“Ito prangka prangka na, pag patuloy pa rin ang pagpapahirap sa mga Pilipino, I might just decide to run as president.”
This was the bold statement that Duterte declared during his regular TV program “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa” on Sunday.
Duterte’s statement was greeted with jubilance by thousands of his supporters in Davao City and the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
The social media was immediately flooded with reactions from Duterte supporters.
But this is not the first time that the mayor gave some hint he might proceed with the presidential bid through substitution come December 10 when the PDP-Laban unanimously endorsed him to substitute Martin Diño.
Last November 2, during his visit to the graves of his parents, Duterte lambasted the administration for its failure to make drastic moves to end the “tanim-bala” syndicate that has been victimizing Filipinos at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), telling reporters here the situation might force him to run for president.
The second instance was on November 3 during the release of the two soldiers in the town of Laak, Compostela Valley, where Duterte told reporters to wait until December 10.
On Sunday, Duterte again outpoured his sentiments to the present administration and in relation to the “tanim-bala” controversy that continue to pin down ordinary civilians at the NAIA.
