Yeng Guiao lumipat na
Veteran coach Yeng Guiao ended his six-year partnership with Rain or Shine that yielded two championships and has moved to the MVP Group and is set to handle the NLEX Road Warriors starting next PBA season.
The confirmation came from RoS co-owner Raymond Yu, who was able to speak to Guiao the past few days as the multititled mentor informed him of his decision to accept the offer of the company owned by telecommunication mogul Manny V. Pangilinan.
“We’re very thankful to coach Yeng for his contributions to the team, to the company,” Yu told the Bulletin-Tempo yesterday. “He led us to nine straight semifinals, six finals appearances, and, of course, he gave us two championships.”
Under the tutelage of Guiao, the Elasto Painters bagged the 2013 Governors’ Cup title and the Commissioner’s Cup championship this season. The team failed to make the semifinal round in the Governors’ Cup, ending a streak of nine consecutive Final Four appearances dating back to the 2013 Governors’ Cup.
Effort to contact Guiao did not materialize as he is not
available for comment.
A source, however, mentioned that aside from coaching the Road Warriors, there is also a non-basketball component to the package that lured Guiao to join the MVP group as he is said to also be involved in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of the company.
Guiao will replace Boyet Fernandez at NLEX, while RoS has tabbed assistant coach Caloy Garcia again as mentor.
