Parañaque to adopt new traffic system

- (Dhel Nazario)

The city of Parañaque has come up with a new way of assessing traffic management and road safety challenges with the use of new equipment that would catch violators with ease without even interacting with them.

The city now enforces a fullfledged no-contact traffic management system along the streets of Sucat and Canaynay. Initially tested two months ago, the comprehensive traffic apprehension camera system has recorded almost five thousand traffic violators in that short of time.

These same cameras were earlier installed along Sucat and Kabihasnan Road to remind motorists to follow traffic rules while in Parañaque. The city is the first in the country to implement an unmanned contactless traffic apprehension camera system.

“Traffic improvement begins with road discipline. When motorists are aware that such a highly sophisticated system is now managing traffic in all areas of the city, they will be extra vigilant in following safety and traffic rules,” Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez emphasized.

The camera system which is also used in developed countries/cities such as Singapore, Hong Kong and New York have monitored motorist’s violation of basic traffic signs in the area such as vehicles passing through red lights, blocking intersections and staying on pedestrian lane. It has also contributed to the improvement of traffic schemes in the city as scenarios are monitored and analyzed real-time.
