Rogue cops baffle PNP chief

- (Martin Sadongdong)

Despite the intensified internal cleansing program being implemented by the Philippine National Police (PNP), the country’s top cop yesterday revealed he could not understand why there are still uniformed men who continue to engage in illegal activities.

However, PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said they would not stop from ridding out the rogue policemen until the last one of them is out of the organization.

“We’d like to reiterate to our police officers that the PNP’s intensified internal cleansing is my administration’s hallmark,” Albayalde said, as he presented today at Camp Crame the latest batch of erring policemen who were relieved from their posts.

Among those sacked were Police Officer 2 Benjo Villanueva Sionilo and Police Officer 1 Ivan Henrick Tavas, both AWOL (absent without official leave) officers from the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) who were arrested after their alleged involvement in a buy-bust operation; and PO3 Lynn Tubig, a member of the Special Action Force Support Battalion arrested in Taguig City amid a supposed pot session.

Also sacked for command responsibility were the chief of police of San Rafael, Bulacan, Chief Superintendent Rizalino Andaya, and 10 of his personnel for allegedly extorting P50,000 from their victims; and three more officers in Tarlac province for reportedly sleeping while on duty and not wearing proper uniform.
