MTRCB probes kids’ show for alleged mention of cuss word
SHEENA Belarmino’s performance as Nicki Minaj on last Sunday’s episode of “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids,” has created a storm with netizens insisting she used a “curse word.” Although the show denied this already via Twitter saying, “All the lyrics that our celebrity kid performers sing are clean versions,” going on to add “Sabi po ni Sheena ‘Mother Mother,’ some still insist they actually heard the child mouth the lines “mother **** er” as she sang Minaj’s hit “Starships.” A quick review of the performance on YouTube proved inconclusive, yet many netizens maintain Belarmino should have been bleeped.
One tweeted, “Seriously ABSBN?” Another added, “Akala ko ako lang g nakapansin...” The judges on the show seemingy didn’t hear the alleged curse word ither, going on to simply praise Bearmino for her performance. “I am so impressed. Parang mga hameleons kayo, parang kapag may dinikitan kayo, you become it,” haron Cuneta told Belarmino on he show. “Ang nakakabilib doon sa ginawa mo, is actually you were so consisent. Sa simula pa lang hanggang matapos mo ‘yung performance, indi ka bumitaw doon sa pagiging icki Minaj mo. Napaniwala mo ako,” gie Alcasid added. In any case, the issue has reached he Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Alyanna Tobia, MTRCB public relations officer, told Tempo they are now conducting their own investigation on the issue and that it is “currently under review.”
This is not the first time a show on ABS-CBN came under fire for supposed irregularities.
In 2010, the MTRCB suspended “It’s Showtime” for a month after Rosanna Roces uttered some choice words that seemed to disparage teachers.
In 2015, the MTRCB summoned producers of “Pinoy Big Brother” concerning children’s rights and protection.
Hosted by Billy Crawford, “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids” airs Saturdays after “Home Sweetie Home;” and Sundays after “Wansapanataym.”
