AFP welcomes Alberto appointment
The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomed the designation of Major Gen. Macairog Sabeniano Alberto as the next commanding general of the Philippine Army.
Alberto will replace outgoing Army chief Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista who is set to retire from the military service on Monday at the age of 56.
Bautista is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Sandiwa" Class of 1986.
President Duterte is expected to grace the turnover ceremony to be held at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said Alberto is a highly respected leader and commander, having distinguished himself in the field of combat, intelligence, and civil military operations in various echelons of the AFP hierarchy.
Arevalo added that Alberto is well-respected among subordinates, peers, and more senior officers of the now more than 98,000-strong Army.
"He is known for his dedicated, no nonsense, and passionate approach to mission accomplishment while ensuring the welfare of the men and women under his command," Arevalo said.
Alberto is a member of the PMA “Sinagtala” Class of 1986.
Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva said they are grateful and welcomes the designation of Alberto, the 60th commanding general of the Army.
Villanueva said Alberto is a well-rounded officer and highly respected leader and commander, having distinguished himself in the field of combat, intelligence, and civil military operations.
"We believe that the Army which is composed of more than 98,000 troopers will be in good hands and will further soar up high in accomplishing its mandate and attaining its vision of becoming a world class," Villanueva said.
