Duterte ‘endorses’ Mar for 2019
President Duterte said on Thursday that the public should try voting former Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” A. Roxas II as senator in the May 2019 elections to see if he has a more effective way of solving the illegal drugs problem in the country.
Duterte, in a speech at the distribution of Certificates of Land Ownership Award to agrarian reform beneficiaries in Boracay Island, reiterated his warning to illegal drugs personalities to stop their activities during his term and maybe try to come back when a new leader is elected.
"Do not do it during my watch. Huwag sa panahon na ako ang Presidente. Lie low lang kayo tutal tatlong, tatlong taon lang naman, at kung gusto ninyong bumalik, eh ‘di sige. ‘Pag gusto ng sino ma-Presidente," he said. "Vote for Roxas, Ilonggo eh. Iboto ninyo, walang problema ‘yan," he added.
Duterte said that the people should try voting for Roxas, whom he battled in the 2016 presidential elections, to see if he can really overcome the illegal drugs trade.
"Tatakbo siguro ‘yan si Roxas uli eh. Sige why don’t you try para makita ninyo? You can only measure a man’s stamina for doing a particular activity for his fellowmen," he said.
Roxas had been away from the political limelight for two years until he filed his Certificate of Candidacy for senator in the May 2019 elections last month.
