Trough of LPA, ‘amihan’ affecting Luzon, Mindanao

- (Alexandria Dennise San Juan)

Light rains will prevail over most parts of the country this weekend as two weather systems continue to affect Luzon and Mindanao, the State weather bureau said yesterday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said that the trough of a low pressure area located 1,295 kilometers east of Davao City in Davao del Sur and still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is affecting Mindanao.

PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz said that the extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to Central and Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and Davao region.

Residents of these areas were warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The trough of the LPA, Dela Cruz said, is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

The other weather system, the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” will continue to affect Luzon and parts of Visayas, PAGASA said.

Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail in Metro Manila, as well as in the rest of Luzon and Visayas due to the amihan.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers are expected over the rest of Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.
