- By WAYLON GALVEZ

Rio Olympics silver medalist and Asian Games gold medal winner Hidilyn Diaz is looking forward for a two-month of training in Ningbo, China beginning next month in the hope of qualifying to the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Diaz said China is the ideal place to train for such important event since there will be no distractions with limited social media activities.

The multi-awarded lifter ought to do well in the second Tokyo Games qualifier after faring badly in the World Championships held last November in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

She wound up 11th but moved up to No. 10 later on after the 10th finisher was disqualified due to doping.

Diaz, however, is confident she can improve her ranking.

“Every six months there is a ranking, and I think it’s doable for me to finish in the top eight. This is a process that I should go through, building strength and being more patient,” Diaz said.

“I want to qualify for the 2020 Olympics, so this is part of my plan – from my training to the competitions that I’ll be joining. I take the initiative to do, have a plan and program,” added Diaz.

Diaz said the composition of the PH team is still being finalized.

The team is targeting a Feb. 10 to April 10 training.

“That’s the plan, a training in China with the national team,” said Diaz. “We really need to focus, that the hardest thing actually. If we train there, I’m confident we’ll be able to accomplish that because in China there’s really no time for social media.”
