LPA trough, ‘amihan’ affecting PH

- (Alexandria San Juan)

The trough of a low pressure area spotted near Mindanao will continue to bring cloudy skies and rainshowers in the region, while the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will still prevail over Luzon and Visayas.

In a weather bulletin issued yesterday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said that the extension of the LPA will still affect Mindanao, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in the area.

The LPA was spotted 1,290 kilometers east southeast of Mindanao and still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA said.

Weather specialist Menro Mendoza of PAGASA said that the LPA is not expected to enter PAR and has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression.

PAGASA warned residents on possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The northeast monsoon continues to affect Luzon and Visayas.

Bicol region and Eastern Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the amihan.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and of Visayas also due to the northeast monsoon.
