The Philippine National Police yesterday welcomed a recent Social Weather Stations survey showing that majority of Filipinos believe there are fewer drug personalities in their communities.

The survey released on Saturday showed that 66 percent of Filipinos see fewer drug users and pushers in their communities. The survey was conducted from Dec. 16 to 19, 2018 with 1,440 adult respondents aged 18-years-old and above.

Senior Supt. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said the result of the survey "proves that the continuing anti-illegal drugs campaign of the government is effective."

"The PNP welcomes the result of the latest SWS survey showing that 66 percent of Filipinos believe that the number of drug users in their communities decreased," Banac said.

"The high rating obtained proves that the continuing anti-illegal drugs campaign of the government is effective in convincing drug dependents to refrain from further using illegal drugs, and instrumental in reducing the total number of crimes nationwide, thereby creating a secure environment where people feel safe to live, work, and do business," he added.

The PNP has been one of the leading agencies in President Duterte's war on drugs, which has received both criticisms and praises here and abroad.

According to latest data, 5,104 drug suspects have been killed in the war against drugs. On the other hand, 167,135 drug personalities were arrested while ₱25.62billion worth of illegal drugs and laboratory equipment were seized and destroyed by the authorities.
