The Eastern Police District (EPD) formed on Monday a special task force to speed up the investigation on the ambush-slay of a businessman and his driver on EDSA in Mandaluyong City on Sunday.

Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba, EPD director, created the Special Investigation Task Group Yulo (SITG-Yulo) which is now studying the trajectory and cross-matching of the bullets and fingerprints lifted from the crime scene.

SITG-Yulo through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group also examined the close circuit television (CCTV) footages collected by the probers for possible identification of the gunmen.

Businessman Jose Luis Yulo, 62; and driver Allan Nomer Santos, 55, were killed when two men riding a black motorcycle fired shots at their white Toyota Grandia van with plate number NOS 361 on EDSA southbound near Reliance Street in Barangay Hills around 3:30 p.m.

Another passenger, stock broker Esmeralda Ignacio, was wounded and is now recovering at VRP Medical Center in Mandaluyong City.

The three reportedly came from a drag racing at Clark International Speedway in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran, Mandaluyong City Police chief, said that 12 spent cartridges cases and a bullet from .45-caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene.

“These are the initial evidences we recovered from the crime scene. We are still investigating the trajectory of the bullets,” Villaceran said.

The incident caused a heavy traffic along the EDSA southbound lane.

Earlier, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde ordered National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar and Villaceran to solve the case the soonest possible time.
