San Beda, Perpetual duel in D-L

Metropac-San Beda Univeresit­y makes its debut today against fellow NCAA contender in University of Perpetual Help as part of a triplehead­er in the PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Movers take on the Altas at 2 p.m. hoping to start off their campaign on a bright note in the Foundation Group of the 20team tournament.

Last year’s Foundation Cup champion Go for Gold-College of St. Benilde tries to bounce back from last week’s embarrassi­ng loss when it battles St. ClareVirtu­al Reality in the Aspirants Group at 4 p.m.

Seeing action for the first time this season in the 12 noon opener are The Masterpiec­e-Trinity University of Asia and Wangs Basketball in the Foundation Group. Nigerian center Donald Tankoua, James Canlas, Clint Doliguez and AC Soberano lead Metropac-San Beda’s bid to give coach Boyet Fernandez another championsh­ip in the PBA’s developmen­tal competitio­n.

Fernandez is the winningest coach in D-League history with eight championsh­ips – six with star-studded NLEX and two with Cignal.

Looking to foil Metropac’s bid is Perpetual which will have ex-Red Lion Ben Adamos, Keith Pido, Edgar Charcos and mentored by former San Beda coach Frankie Lim. Meanwhile, Go for Gold is aching to get back after a 103-75 loss to Cignal-Ateneo in the tournament opener last Valentine’s Day. Leading the Scratchers of coach Charles Tiu are Justin Gutang and Yankie Haruna.
