Breaking new ground
THOUGH happy to have gained huge notice as actress in the short three years she has spent in the biz, Mikee Quintos is not yet too keen on letting go of her first love: singing.
She said, “Maliit pa lang ako kumakanta na ako, ‘yun talaga ang hilig ko.”
The 21-year-old made clear, “Masaya ako na maraming nakakakilala sa akin bilang actress but I really want to show people I am more than that; I could sing as well.”
To do so, Mikee has partnered with “The Clash” alumnus Anthony Rosaldo.
She explained, “Anthony is the perfect foil for me. He makes me feel comfortable, which is something I really need at this point.”
Asked why, she said, “I’m quite insecure as a singer. It is my first love pero honestly, nawala ako sa focus because of my acting career. Isa pa, hindi kasi ako biritera. I need someone who could push me and motivate me despite my insecurity.”
Anthony on his part, more than welcomes the idea.
“I really think Mikee could shine as singer. She’s got a unique voice, very soulful,” he said. “Ang maganda doon, I think we have rapport, we sing and perform well together.”
If he sounds like he is too enamored with Mikee, well, Anthony actually is.
“Professionally speaking, I enjoy working with Mikee,” he said. “Masarap siyang kausap, kasama, katrabaho, very talented, maganda so, kahit sino naman siguro, I mean, sinong hindi ‘diba?”
Is something romantic brewing between them?
Both smiled.
Anthony then said, “Wala pa naman sa ganoon. We’re getting to know each other sa ngayon pero gaya nga ng sinabi ko, puwede.”
Mikee was just quiet but she didn’t exactly object, segueing simply to business, mentioning how she and Anthony are to push their partnership further via “Revelation,” a one-night only concert to be held June 28 at the Music Museum.
Co-produced by GMA Artist Center and JPI Entertainment, “Revelation” will have the two reintroducing themselves to their audience in more ways than one.
“Marami kaming first na ipapakita dito,” Anthony offered. “Like si Mikee, kung kilala ninyo siya bilang aktres dito makikita ninyo siyang kumanta at sumayaw and this early sinasabi ko sa inyo, hindi kayo madi-disappoint.”
“Same with Anthony,” crowed Mikee. “Sasayaw rin siya rito, something na hindi gaano alam nang mga tao.”
“Marami kaming gagawin sa concert na akma sa title nito, ‘Revelation,’” added Anthony.
Appearing as guest in the show are Solenn Heussaff and Aicelle Santos.
“Solenn is a good friend of mine and I’m really happy she is part of the show,” said Mikee. “Isa siya sa mga nagmo-motivate sa akin to push my singing career.”
“Siyempre iba rin ‘yung may Aicelle Santos kang kasama sa concert,” said Anthony. “World-class performer ‘yan so you could only do well to bring your A-game din pagdating ng concert.”
