Grocery packs for the poor

- (Jel Santos)

Instead of expensive gifts, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said he wants to receive grocery packs on his 31st birthday yesterday.

“Sa mga nagtatanong kung ano ang gusto kong regalo, bumili na lang po kayo ng grocery food pack at ipamigay sa nangangailangan,” he said when he was asked by residents what presents he prefers to receive on Wednesday.

The donations, according to Sotto, could be dropped off at the Mayor’s Office in the Pasig City Hall.

He said that the grocery packs would really help needy families to cope with the effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The mayor also appealed to his friends not to throw him any celebration or surprise party, stressing that mass gathering is still prohibited even during the general community quarantine.

“Pakiusap na wala munang celebration o surprise party. Hindi naman ako mahilig sa party at higit pa rito, bawal pa ang mga mass gathering. Buhay na buhay pa si COVID, mga kaibigan!,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sotto thanked all the people who took time to greet him on his 31st birthday.

As of June 16, 2020, Pasig City has a total of 710 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 389 recoveries, and 77 deaths.

Based on the city’s data, the village with the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pasig is Barangay Pinagbuhatan with 96 patients. It is also the barangay with the most number of recoveries at 53.
