Facebook accounts that link lewd videos removed

Facebook has removed and sanctioned the administrators of accounts involved in malicious tagging on posts with lewd contents.

The Department of Justice’s Office of Cybercrime (DOJ-OOC) said yesterday it has received “confirmation from Facebook APAC Legal Law Enforcement Outreach that the page associated to the malicious tagging has been removed and its administrators were sanctioned.”

“We encourage everyone to report similar incidents in the future to the DOJ-OOC for immediate and appropriate action,” it advised.

The DOJ-OCC had informed Facebook on the malicious tagging. “It has come to the attention of the Department of Justice (DOJ) - Office of Cybercrime (OOC) that a number of Facebook account users are tagged in a post containing a link to a lewd video and when they access the said link, the user will be asked to install an apparent update to a player in order to watch the video in full.”

“When clicked, it will result in the automatic and random tagging in the same post of other Facebook account users,” the DOJ-OOC explained.

Prior to Facebook’s action, the DOJ-OOC has warned the public: “If you happen to get a notification tagging you in a post that contains a link to an apparent adult content, DO NOT CLICK ANY FURTHER AND REPORT THE POST.”

It said that “introduction or transmission of viruses, such as malwares, to and interference in the functioning of computer systems are prohibited acts under Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.”
