AGNO, Pangasinan – A Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) chief and one of his men died of suffocation while cleaning a deep well in Sitio Bariquer, Barangay Dangley here on Sunday night.

Police identified the victims as CVO chief John Edward Apostol, 34, and member Hector Caducio, 52, both residents of Barangay Dangley, Agno.

Investigator said that Apostol was cleaning the deep well beside the house of his cousin when he was heard gasping for air at about 5:50 p.m.

The well was narrow and deep and built with concrete culvert.

Seeing Apostol’s situation, Caducio went down the well to rescue him.

Unfortunately, Caducio was also suffocated inside the well due to lack of air.

Rescuers from the Bureau of Fire Protection and Agno police extracted the victims from the well and brought them to Agno Rural Health Unit, but they were both declared dead on arrival, according to Police Staff Sgt. John Clifford Martin, investigator-on-case.
