Lady Altas regain soft tennis crown

University of Perpetual Help DALTA finally ended a 13-year dry spell after reigning supreme in the NCAA Season 99 with a 2-1 victory over defending champion San Beda, 2-1, on Thursday, April 18, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court in Manila.

The Lady Altas, composed of Christy and Lyke Lei Sañosa, Cindy and Aira Nuguit, and Liminiree Caylaluad, completed the sweep of the first and second rounds to dethrone the Red Lioness and bring the crown back to Las Pinas.

Christy, a 4th year HRM student, expressed her gratitude to Perpetual as she and Cindy put a winning end to their respective collegiate careers.

“I’m very proud to represent my alma mater here at NCAA and nakapagbigay ako, kasama ang team ko, ng karangalan ang Perpetual before we graduated with Cindy Nuguit,” Christy said.

The 2023 SEA Games gold medalist was cited as the women’s division Most Valuable Player while her teammate Caylaluad and coach Samuel Nuguit, received the Freshman and Coach of the Year honors, respectively.

San Beda’s Angela Valdez took the Rookie of the Year award.

Meanwhile, the College of Saint Benilde powered its way to earn the top podium finish, defeating the Perpetual Altas, 5-4, 0-4, 4-1 in the men’s division.

Carlos Santiago, who claimed the men’s Season MVP and Rookie of the Year honors, powered the Blazers against an Altas side led by Freshman of the Year awardee Leyron Bernardo

CSB head mentor John Rey Moreno took the men's coaching award.
