2 PH marks in archery shattered in Shanghai

Filipino archers, including Alon Yuan Jucutan, exhibited marksmanship and shattered two Philippine records in in the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai, China on Wednesday, April 24.

Jucutan, 18, tallied 700 points in the 75-men single compound event to smash his previous mark of 673 in the 2023 World Youth Archery Championships in

Limerick, Ireland where he closed out his stint at 9th place – the highest finish by far by a Filipino archer in the prestigious event.

That put Baguio City archer in the 35th position and will face Mohd Juwaidi Mas Mazuki on Thursday, April 25, in the eliminations.

He also helped the PH team – along 2014 Asian Games bronze medalist Paul Marton Dela Cruz and Andrei Olano – break the national record in the compound event after pooling together 2093 points, bettering the six-year PH mark of 2085 established in the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia.

Dela Cruz was part of that trio alongside Earl Yap and Joseph Vicencio.

In the singles event, Olano meets Turkey’s Batuhan Agcaoglu while Dela Cruz will lock horns with South Korea’s Choi Yonghee.

Other Filipino bets Pia and Gabby Bidaure, Keith Nawew and Jason Feliciano are still competing at presstime.
