The regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas has ordered the inspection of all business establishments in the region to find out if they are compliant with the latest wage order issued last September.

DOLE-7 director Ma. Gloria Tango has directed its Project Labor Enforcement Action Program to conduct the inspection and report any violation of the minimum wage law and other labor standards provision of the Labor Code of the Philippines.

Tango clarified that the inspection visit they are conducting is not initiated by a complaint but rather a routine work as mandated under Article 128 of the Labor Code of the Philippines that allows the Secretary of Labor, through her duly authorized representative, to determine if employees are receiving what is due to them.

Tango said that the inspectors will also check if employers are remitting Social Security System, Philhealth and Pag-ibig premiums of their employees.

“Businessmen should take this opportunity that affirms their religious compliance for all labor inspectors are instructed not only to check but to explain as well, both to labor and management, the exact core labor standards rule,” Tango added. Moreover, this simple company-based awareness raising approach is part of the DOLE advocacy program that promotes productivity and harmony through labor-management education inside the company.

Tango said that workers and management are encouraged to ask, clarify or inquire the applicable labor rules, regulations and guidelines to spark the atmosphere of selfregulation by management and productivity enhancement by the workers.
