Guba Hospital now admits patients

- — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/mit

The Department of Health has allowed the recently rehabilitated Guba Community Hospital in barangay Guba, this city to admit patients pending the actual license to admit.

Dr. Gloria Duterte, Oic-chief of Hospital of the Cebu City Medical Center said that the community hospital, which is under the CCMC management, has passed several inspections conducted by the DOH.

Their application for a license to admit is now being processed. To avoid further delay in the delivery of health services to residents of mountain barangays, they were allowed to start admitting patients last month.

Duterte said that they are now open for outpatient services and for illnesses that require admission as well as for minor surgeries. Major surgeries are still handled at the CCMC.

Duterte said since the Guba hospital started admitting patients, they have observed decongestion at the CCMC.

Various equipment needed by the hospital have also arrived, Duterte said. The equipment includes Xray machine, suction apparatus, nebulizer and defibrillator, among others.

Only two doctors used to be assigned at the Guba Hospital on shifting schedules but Duterte said that they added three more doctors.

Guba Community Hospital now has three doctors on-duty daily.

Guba hospital was rehabilitated last year using the funds from the Department of Health. The hospital had to be rehabilitated because through the years, it had become dilapidated and was no longer conducive to provide services.

It also had to be improved to re-apply for a license to admit since the poor condition of the hospital triggered DOH to revoke its license in 2010.

The additional equipment were purchased through the Priority Development Assistance Fund of former Representative Raul del Mar.

Over 20 mountain barangays benefit from the Guba Hospital in the north district.

Today, over 1,000 from 10 surrounding barangays are expected to benefit from the medical mission facilitated by the CCMC and the Rotary Club at the hospital grounds.
