Apart from a free transportation fee and likely fame, pregnant women in Cebu will learn more about their condition through a lecture on the National Day for Pregnant Women.

The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) recently asked help from the office of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to encourage all pregnant women in Cebu to join the activity on March 10.

POGS-CEBU President Dr. Maria Lourdes Chan said the event will also serve as their attempt at a Guinness record for conducting simultaneous lectures nationwide about pre-natal care and nutrition among others.

Chan said they are expecting about 3,000 to 5,000 participants to join the national event.

In response, Garcia extended help by offering the Cebu International Convention Center for free as venue of the said event.

She also assured POGS that the local government units under the Cebu Provincial government will take care of the participating pregnant women’s transportation to the venue.

“I am glad about this (activity). It’s a strong statement against RH Bill,” Garcia said.

POGS will coordinate with Dr. Christina Giango, Head Officer of the Integrated Provincial Health Office for the pre-registration and for the presentation of the Province’s programs regarding women’s health.

The National Day for Pregnant Women (Pambansang Araw ng mga Buntis) was declared by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last 2004 through Presidential Proclamation No. 596, declaring every March 10 as a day to highlight pregnant women and focus on giving proper education, medical care and advocacy programs to promote the welfare of pregnant women in the country.
