Mountain residents get easy access to water
Residents in the mountain barangay of Mulao, Liloan in northern Cebu now have easy access to water with the installation of 17 communal faucets in the area.
The faucets, which form part of the Mulao water system, are installed near houses, allowing residents to easily fetch water at a cost of P1 per gallon and P10 per barrel. Fees are collected from users to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of the water system.
The project is a partnership between the Cebu Provincial Government, Municipality of Liloan and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Capitol provided funds for the entire water system, the Foundation donated pipelines and pumps, while the local government identified other sources of water in the area.
The water system was inaugurated last Feb. 8 with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia leading the ceremonies. Also present were Liloan Mayor Duke Frasco; Provincial Board Member Jude Sybico; officials of the Cebu Provincial Government, Municipality of Liloan and Barangay Mulao; Aboitiz Foundation Manager for Project Development and Management Danny Cerence, Aboitizland AVP Allan Alfon, and VECO CSR Manager Eric Ching.
In her speech, Governor Garcia said the Mulao water system is proof of the benefits if both the public and private sectors work together.
Representatives from the Aboitiz Group, for their part, urged the residents to help ensure that the project becomes sustainable so more people may benefit from it.
