Cebu is it

-

Hospicio ‘Razy’ Razon told me in Davao that he retired from his job so he can spend his time playing golf.

Razy played for Alta Vista in the seniors’ tournament of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Interclub and then stayed on to play for the men’s team of Club Filipino.

I might have been in Davao for a week, but Razy was there much longer than I was.

I know of many others, who spend a lot of time on the golf course to be with friends, be one with nature, or simply to enjoy the game. I wish for the day when that time would also come for me, but it doesn’t seem so in the very near future.

Yes, for seven straight days, I was at the golf course, but not to play, although I did get a chance to do so during the two-day media tournament, but to cover the PAL Interclub tournament at Apo Golf and Country Club and Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.

Walking several kilometers while hitting a ball seems like a breeze, but doing so with a backpack and carrying a camera can be hell to your back.

If not for the fact that I would get a better story and shoot better pictures that way, I would have preferred just hanging out at the clubhouse or the press room and wait for the results.

Now that the two tournaments are over, the next one that will be held in Cebu will be something to look forward to. With the tournament heading to Cebu next year, I would expect even more money to be spent here considering that more players are expected to come and they might bring with them more companions and are most likely to extend their stay.

The use of four golf courses – two for each of the events – would mean that those who would like to play practice rounds can play in the two others.

Aside from the four courses – Alta Vista, Cebu Country Club, Club Filipino, and Mactan island Golf Club, there are also other options for the visitors to play at the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club in Medellin, the Verdemar course in San Remigio, and the Badian International Golf Club down south.

One reason why a lot of people like to come to Cebu is that they have a lot of options to do many other things like laze around on the beaches or climb the mountains or simply live the metropolitan lifestyle.

All options are so close to each other that you can be spontaneous and do whatever you please with little planning.

I don’t really need to write much more to convince people about Cebu as a venue for sporting events. I do know that many envy us, Cebuanos, for what he have. MILESTONES: Belated birthday greetings to Atty. Joepox Palma, Lt. Cdr. Ferdinand Gloria, and Sean Salera, who all turned a year older last Monday.

The same goes to those who celebrated yesterday like my cousin Jacqueline Frasco, Anton Quisumbing, Edward Cañete, Rhea Cahutay-quisumbing, Jennifer de Guzman-cabatingan, and Stephanie Loquellano-cruz.

Today’s greetings go to my high school classmate Carmina Jumamoy and my nephew Nino Renzo Quiñones, who get to celebrate their birthday on the right date every four years only.

More power to all of you!
