FRESH-FACED TEENS GEAR UP FOR INT'L BEAUTY TILT

The first requisite for stardom? A blemish-free complexion. A pimple-free face that’s ready for those scrutinizing close-ups and harsh flashbulbs.

- By VANESSA BALBUENA

That is, according to Jaime Acosta of Psalmstre Inc., the maker of Placenta soap and one of the brains behind what is perhaps the biggest student-based beauty competition at present, the Mr. and Ms. Olive-c Campus Model Search. And just like their first batch of winners, the twoyear-old contest’s current title-holders possess that smooth, healthy skin and embody that artista-looking aura.

The choice of selecting candidates with the most star pot ential looks- wise, is in line with Acosta’s plans of building up their winners into eventual showbiz personalities. Their pageant winners automatically become exclusive contract artists of Creworks Asia, Psalmstre’s sister company and a talent management agency headed by Victor Acosta. Of course, this nationwide undertaking’s main goal is to discover promising young adults to be product endorsers of Olive-c, Psalmstre’s soap variant for teenagers.

Rohama Rearte, a 5’7" tall mestiza from Antipolo, Rizal, is this year’s female winner; her male counterpart is Aljohn Lucas of Taytay, Rizal, who stands at 5’8". They were crowned last January during finals night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, beating out other students from universities and colleges all over the country who were meticulously screened by Acosta himself.

Both 16 years old and fourth year high school students (Aljohn attends Taytay United Methodist Christian School in Taytay while Rohama goes to Hillcrest School in Antipolo City), they each received P25,000 cash, one-year supply of Olive-c soap, scholarship at Informatics College, and a P100,000 guaranteed

modeling contract as Olive-c image models. Soon, the public will see them in Olive-c billboard and print ad materials.

Aljohn and Rohama are lucky to have joined and won this year, because for the first time, Psalmstre Enterprises will send their bets to an international pageant. They are set to compete in the Mr. and Ms. Teen Tourism Universe contest in Guatemala this October 2. Our candidates are preparing themselves this early through constant workshops.

The pair got a first taste of their promotional duties as campus ambassadors during a recent stop in Cebu, where a fashion show, pictorials and interviews awaited the new Olive- C models. They headed for Lipa City, Batangas next and also joined the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City. Throughout their reign, Rohama and Aljohn hope to visit other cities in the country, such as Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, among others.

Rohama and Aljohn have had modeling and pageant experience prior to joining the Olive- C Campus Model Search. Aside from using Olive- C products, they credit enough sleep and a no-vices lifestyle for their smooth and healthy complexion.

Not surprisingly, they share a similar aspiration to enter showbiz. They have good reason to be hopeful, since they know what paths the first Olive- C grand winners have successfully taken.

Muriel Adrienne Orais, a Cebuana, moved up to grab the Miss Philippines-Water 2011 title , is now an active print/ramp model in Manila, and might join showbiz anytime soon. Hiro Magalona, for his part, nabbed an acting contract with GMA7 and is currently seen in the network’s youthoriented series Tween Hearts and German Moreno's late- night show Walang Tulugan.

With their star looks in the bag, Rohama and Aljohn just have to prove they have the talents and right attitude to back it up.
