The Talisay City government, through the annual celebration of the landing anniversary of the American and Filipino forces in its shores, reminds the public of the importance of the event.

“Every year hundreds or even thousands of people from the province visit us to see the reenactment of the Landing, but we all know they only come here to see the highlights: the battles, the parachutes.

Little did they know that this particular event had liberated not only Talisay but the entire province of Cebu. So starting this year, we will let them know of its importance,” said city budget officer Edgardo Mabunay, who also acts as tourism officer.

Mabunay said the whole province “should celebrate” not only every March 26, the landing anniversary, but the whole year round because everyday since March 26, 1945, “we have become free.”

On March 26, the 67th anniversary of this occasion, apart from the usual reenactment of the battle at the exact place where it reportedly happened, Mabunay said they will also include in the production how the people celebrate their victory, “because that depicts real freedom.”

The budget officer also said the Landing event will be included as a tourist attraction.

Meanwhile, P500,000 has already been earmarked for this celebration of which war veterans, first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas, and Governor Gwen Garcia are expected to attend as distinguished guests.
