Summer Theater Fun!

-

A theater workshop is both a great learning experience and a fun way for kids and teens to spend the summer. Working and playing theater games together, they develop creativity, discipline, a sense of accomplishment, and other life skills that last long after the summer has gone. Plus studies have shown that exposure to the arts improves reading, writing, and math skills, and makes kids four times more inclined to be academically successful and much more likely to show up eagerly for school.

Now on its seventh consecutive year, Little Boy Productions will hold theater workshops for teenagers and for kids as young as 4 years old. This will be on April 16 to May 6 at the Manros Plaza on Mango Avenue.

What makes these workshops so special? “Our teachers are professional actors and qualified instructors from Repertory Philippines, Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University. They bring with them their years of experience teaching and doing professional theater in Manila to Cebu” says executive producer Hendri Go.

Teachers include Jill Pena, a Repertory Philippines actress who is currently performing in “The Sound of Music” at the Resorts World Manila. She will be taking a three-week break from that musical to teach the workshops here in Cebu. “I love Cebu and I love kids,” says Jill, who is also a certified early childhood education teacher with a strong background in music and movement.

Joining her will be Niel Kintanar who finished his Masters degree at the Ateneo de Manila University and also taught at Ateneo and at De La Salle University. His theater mentors include Bart Guingona, Gabe Mercado, Gina Alajar and Leo Martinez. The workshops will run a total of 16 sessions, culminating with a showcase at the Marcelo Fernan Press Center on May 6, giving participants the experience of performing in a real 240-seat theater.
