Seniors to receive cash gift today

- Jessica Ann R. Pareja/ MBG

Over 54,000 senior citizens in Cebu City will receive their Christmas cash gift from the Cebu City Government amounting to P4,000 today.

This means the total cash assistance they received from the city government within the year under the Senior Citizens Financial Assistance Program now totals P7,000.

Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Head Rolando Llaguno assured the list of those included in the payroll were certified correct by the chapter organizations, the barangays, the OSCA and the Office of the Mayor.

He further assured that the ‘delisting’ has been resolved and was only an isolated case.

The distribution will be held in the senior citizens’ respective barangays.

Before, distribution is always held at the city hall.

But in consideration of those who live in the upland areas, it was transferred to the barangays.

Llaguno said the all those who are tasked to do the distribution were already briefed on how to do it in a peaceful and orderly manner.

In Barangay Apas, Captain Ramil Ayuman said they prepared a program to entertain the senior citizens while waiting. There will also be a raffle of gift items that they have solicited from sponsors.

Llaguno said that those who will not be able to claim their assistance today have 15 working days to claim it at the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).

He said that all unclaimed assistance after the grace period will be deemed forfeited.

Those who are bedridden or in extreme way, have no capacity to go to city hall, must ask a relative to inform the OSCA so the disbursing officer can personally visit them at home or in the hospital. –
