Charles Habib Malik, former president of the United Nations General Assembly, a Lebanese philosopher and diplomat, said, “The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world.”

Myriads of women have played great roles in creating a better society and it is just fitting to celebrate their achievements, emancipation, and empowerment. March 8 has been declared as the International Women’s day and Ayala Center Cebu will be observing the celebration with their set of activities. Their month-long awareness campaign “I Am Woman” commemorates the beauty of womanhood. It will kick off on the same day with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Paseo Marina to formally open the photo exhibit of Iconic Cebuanas who have been epitomes of success and empowerment in their different fields of specialization.

More local and foreign substantial women little known by today’s generation will also be displayed around the mall this month. Women advocate groups Quota International of Cebu, Rotary Club of Gloria Maris, ICanServe Foundation, Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, Zonta Clubs of Cebu I and II, One Billion Rising, and JCI Zugbuana will grace the event and show a multimedia presentation of different women who best embody their organization’s ideals.

Ayala Center Cebu also encourages every woman to take part in the online photo promotion by taking a picture of herself and how she is as a woman and uploading it on Ayala Center Cebu’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instragram accounts. This is to celebrate the differences in each woman, which makes her beautiful. Tokens await the first 30 participants.

However, this campaign won’t be confined within the mall’s premises for they will be going to schools along with the woman advocate groups to talk about empowering women, the early detection of cancer, and issues on violence against women.

From Paseo Marina, Ayala Center Cebu invites all to be in the Activity Center by seven o’clock in the evening for a sweet and soothing serenade by Bossa Nova Queen, Sitti.

Be grateful for having a mother, sister, grandmother, an aunt, and a wife. Treat the women of your life to this event and let them feel loved and recognized for the many things they have done to us and to the society, at large. —
