Former Cebu congressman Eduardo Gullas, head and founder Alayon, might declare barangay Lagtang in Talisay City a free zone considering that two party members are expected contest the same position in the October 28 barangay election.

Association of Barangay Captains president Charles Basillote, in an interview with

The FREEMAN, said barangay Lagtang captain Dindin Bas is likely to be challenged by former barangay captain and Celiapo Cabuenas, who lost the race for councilor in the last May election.

Both Bas and Cabuenas are close allies of Gullas.

“They belong to the same group. The party is trying to convince one of them not to run against each other pero ang duha kay decided man gyud sila modagan. But we are not losing hope,” Basillote said.

Cabuenas, in a recent statement after he lost the May election, said “This is not goodbye for me but rather a hello - a fresh start for another chapter of my political career, perhaps to continue what I have started three years ago in my beloved barangay Lagtang.”

Cabuenas, who only served for one term as city councilor, was a three-term barangay captain of Lagtang.

He is expected to challenge the incumbent barangay captain, Dindin Bas, the son of former city councilor Arturo Bas.

Bas, on the other hand, is determined to run saying that he has another term yet.
