A sister of mine who's been living in Los Angeles for many years says the people in LA have been constantly preparing for what the experts and non-experts call the Big One, meaning "the killer quake." Everytime there would be talk or rumor about the Big One coming, families would either replenish their food stocks or get rid of groceries that had expired.

"Kada dunay huhungihong nga the Big One is coming, magkabuang mga tawo pangilis sa food stocks," she said. "Kadaghanan sa mga delata nangataya na ang lata..."

But my sis says you'll never hear anyone grumbling about the hassle of maintaining a good supply of foodstuff in preparation for the so-called Big One. "Ok lang ang hassle kun kahago basta di lang moabot ang dugay nang giingon nilang moabot," my sis says.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned public against eating letfovers. But did you know that there is a group of good samaritans who collect leftovers from big banquets for the poor and hungry living in the slums and the sidewalks?

My source made it clear, though, that only the untouched leftovers are collected for the purpose I mentioned. "Some of the collected foods are either heated or recooked," according to my source.

OVERHEARD: A husband and wife in their 50s are known to be an exemplary couple in their neighborhood. "They are extra sweet to each other," said a neighbor. But the neighbor said: "Pero ang katamis miaslum na." As they entered a restaurant near Fuente Osmeña, a woman, according to this neighbor, stood up. "Miduol sa bana ug mi- kiss sa nawong pero duol sa may baba." The wife naturally asked: "Kinsa tong bayhana?" The husband naturally replied: "Ambot oi kinsa to siya." It was learned that she was his girl.
