Gladys Reyes’ kids excited to watch her play a mermaid

Gladys Reyes said that at her age, which she jokes is at 30 something, it came as a surprise that she was offered the role of a mermaid in the new GMA 7 sirenaserye “Kambal Sirena” which premiered on Monday, replacing “Adarna.”

At the grand launch of the series last week, Gladys said she couldn’t contain her excitement. Even her children are excited to watch her because it’s a fantasy show and we know that children love fantasy stories and fairy tales. Plus, this is the first time that Gladys is playing a mermaid.

“It takes three hours to prepare me for my role. Siyempre may prosthetics tapos buntot pa. Tapos, I deliver my lines in a different way, parang paos ang boses. I also have big movements since we are supposed to be underwater although we just shoot our scenes in a studio,” the former child actress explains. “But when we saw the finished product, we really feel proud kasi ang ganda ng resulta.”

When asked what she thinks makes “Kambal Sirena” from the “Dyesebel” series of the other network, Gladys says their show has a different story. “Even if both of the central characters of the two dramas are mermaids, ours has an original and different story. We have something new to offer. Let’s face it, we already know the story of Dyesebel since it is a well-loved novel and had been made both in movies and in television. Iba naman ang kuwento namin.”

Gladys is also back in a villain role as Barracuda in “Kambal Sirena.” “Imagine me at my age and with three kids, playing the role of a mermaid? But it is fun and enjoyable kahit na mahirap. It’s a challenging role but I know kids will love it as I also enjoy doing it.”

She is also happy with her hosting chores for her talk show “Moments” aired on Net 25 of which she is also executive producer. “I also hope the people will notice the immense work that I put into my job as host of ‘Moments’ which I had been doing for many years already. In fact, I’ve garnered awards nomination for ‘ Moments’ and I am truly honored that they see me also as a competent host, same way that they see me as a competent kontrabida,” said Gladys.

*** If there is one person in the Gutierrez family who is truly excited with the airing of “It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez” in the E! Channel, it’s definitely Annabelle Rama. At the presscon last week announcing that the reality show of the Gutierrezes will be aired on the top cable channel, Tita Annabelle expressed elation that she will finally get to wear her most expensive outfits and her most beautiful footwear in the show.

But other than that, the public will get a closer look at the lives of the Gutierrez family as they embark on a cruise and travel to different places while taping the reality show.

“Gusto ko mag- enjoy ang mga Pinoy sa akin at dahil English ito, kailangan mag-aral ako magsalita ng English. If the people love me as Annabelle Rama, I think they will love me more once they see me in this show,” said Tita Annabelle.

For her part, Ruffa said that while her life is an open book, this reality show will provide a glimpse into the lives of their family away from showbiz. “We can show what we really are as a family – our relationship in the house. But then we had to be conscious not to look at the camera. We have to get used to not looking at the camera even if it’s there,” said the former beauty queen.

Also appearing in the show are the twins Richard and Raymond, their dad Eddie Gutierrez and their other siblings.

Will Sarah Lahbati be part of the show? “Let’s just wait and see,” said Richard who is relieved that Sarah has already made peace with GMA network and is ready to pick up from where she left off after that controversial “tampuhan” with GMA-7.

*** Coco Martin admits that he harbored a grudge with ABS-CBN before. He had two offers to do a TV series but it didn’t push through because of him being labeled a bold actor.

This was the time that Coco was doing mostly indie films which had controversial scenes like nudity and sex. But even if he felt bad then, Coco did not lose hope that one day, he will be able to set foot on ABSCBN and will be part of a top-rating teleserye.

Fast forward to 2014 – Coco is the lead actor in the new ABS- CBN series “Ikaw Lamang” where he is paired with Kim Chiu. He has proven himself a competent actor and certified top-rater since most of the drama series he topbilled for ABS- CBN did very well; the last one was “Juan dela Cruz” for which he won several acting awards.

“Ikaw Lamang” is another challenge for Coco but knowing his caliber as an actor, he will give his heart and soul to make his performance remarkable.
