Police give tips to prevent crimes during vacation

-

Regional Intelligence Division chief, Supt. Paul Labra, urged the people to be more vigilant during summer vacation and to take extra precautionary measures to prevent crimes.

Labra told reporters that the police have a program called “Oplan SumVac” or Oplan Summer Vacation, which aims to address the number of crimes during the whole summer vacation period.

“Regular ni nato nga security plan ning SumVac, ato nang gitagaan og instructions ang lower units to monitor sa mga lugar nga suroyanan sa mga turista, local o foreign,” he said.

Crimes like robbery and burglary, based on previous reports, proliferate during this period, Labra said.

This is because some residents find a place to enjoy their vacation for the whole family, leaving no one to look after their homes.

Labra said that before leaving the house, all electrical gadgets, equipment and appliances must be unplugged to avoid fire.

“Katong mobiya aron magbaksayon (Those who will leave for vacation), they should secure their place, we will do our part in establishing presence in those areas,” he said.

While on vacation, Labra warned vacationers not to bring valuables like gadgets, jewelries nor give them to their children.

“Dili lang magdala og mahalon nga mga butang gadgets mahatag sa mga bata kay dili kaayo sila concerned sa pagbantay sa mga butang,” he said.

He said that they are monitoring people previously involved in akyat-bahay through-out the region.

Record shows that during peak seasons, these people come to Cebu to ply their trade.

Oplan SumVac also includes monitoring religious activities during the Holy Week and securing tourist spots like beach resorts all over the region.

“Police mohatag og extra effort sa pag-abi abi sa mga tourista nga mosulod sa atong lugar, mobantay sa mga villages nga biyaan for the meantime sa mga molupyo kay magbakasyon,” Labra said.— Bryner L. Diaz/GMR
