BACOLOD CITY — Two policemen were tagged as accomplices of a carnapping group in this city.

However, Senior Supt. Larry Decena, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) yesterday, said the allegations, claiming that a cop assigned at the BCPO and another from a police station in southern Negros, have yet to be verified.

“We do not tolerate the act. We will not allow policemen from buying carnapped vehicles, particularly motorcycles. It can affect our image,” said Decena.

Decena said he will conduct an investigation on the matter, as he emphasized there should be a concrete evidence to support the accusations.

The issue claiming that policemen have alleged involvement in a series of carnapping in the city stemmed from the statement of one of the two suspected carnappers, who were apprehended Wednesday.

The arrested suspects were Great Austria, 29, of Brgy. Alijis, this city, and Jose Angelo Soriano, 24, of Brgy. Mandalagan, also of this city. Austria claimed that among his clients were these two policemen.

Police seized 21 dismantled motorcycles from the shop of Austria at Purok Malapitan in Brgy. Mansilingan of this city.

Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, chief of Police Station 4, said Austria was the one doing the transaction while Soriano was doing the operation.

Rosales added that two counts of carnapping charges were already filed against the two suspects.
