2nd Lou Ornopia cagefest on today

Defending champion Olkas Calambua formally begins its title retention bid as the 2nd Brgy. Capt. Lou Ornopia Basketball Tournament gets underway today at the Calambua open court in the bustling northern Cebu town of San Remigio.

Olkas Calambua is expected to face tough challenge from other contenders namely Brgy. Ilihan, San Miguel and Don Gregorio Antigua-Bagtic. They will play in a double round robin format. The top two qualifiers will enjoy twice-to-beat incentives in the crossover semifinals. The winners will then clash for the championsh­ip in a best-of-three affair.

Before the hardcourt hostilitie­s, a simple opening ceremony will take place at 1 pm. It will be graced by Provincial Board Member Joven Mondigo, and Vice Mayor Al Pestolante. The other highlights of the kickoff salvo is the selection of best muse and best in team uniform.

A total of P50,000 is stake for the top performing teams, with the champion getting the biggest chunk of P20,000. The outstandin­g individual achievers such as the MVP and Mythical Five will earn cash incentives at the end of the tournament.

Co- presented by MS Motosuit, the month-long tilt is also supported by F & FO Motor Parts, JCO Motor Parts, Prospeed, Speed-up, Motomaze, Keiz BJ Motors, Bradder Moto Access, RMO Motor Parts and N Style. It is being held in associatio­n with Congressma­n Benhur Salimbango­n, Provincial Board Members Sun Shimura and Joven Mondigo, Vice Mayor Al Pestolante, SB Member Rizmar de la Peña, Ramon Montealto, Leizel and Diosdado Navarez, Renan Bocado, Lucy Contemplad­o, Dr. Andy Uy, and Sanitec Services.

Aside from basketball, Ornopia also braces for his comeback as motocross organizer, initially crafting a sixleg series that will commence on April 12 also in Calambua.— EBV
