RoS spills Alaska

Jeff Chan sizzles for 24 points all in the second half to propel Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to a dominating 92-78 victory over the Alaska Aces in the PBA Commission­er’s Cup yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Chan connected six out of his 10 triples in the second half to help the Painters to grab their first win of the conference. Import Alex McLean scored 19 points, while Paul Lee added 11 points.

Rain or Shine led by one point at end of the first period, 18-17, before unleashing an offensive onslaught to stretch the lead to eleven, 36-25, with 3:48 to go in the first half.

But Alaska fought back to trimmed the deficit down to six, 32-38 going into the third canto.

The Painters once again controlled the tempo of the game leading as much as 19 points, 69-50, late in the third, but Alaska had a big run to close the gap to three points, 68-72 in the final period.

This is when Chan took over; hitting crucial treys that sparked a 10-1 run that gave the Painters a commanding 17 point lead, 90-73 with 2:47 remaining in the game.

“We just played a lot better today. The chemistry is back, the cohesion is back,” said Painters coach Yeng Guiao in an interview with league’s website. “It’s just a matter of focusing on this conference.”

Reigning ‘Best Import’ Rob Dozier had 27 points in a losing effort for Alaska who dropped to ninth place with 1- 3 win- loss record.
