Adventures in Paradise

- By BEVERLY LINAO

Summer is just around the corner. Kids will be looking for fun, adventure, and a lot of beach time. On the other hand, corporate companies may be planning a getaway or teambuilding event where exercise and relaxation can be combined, preferably amidst sea whiffs and the acoustic rhythm of rushing waves.

Tommy Kennington, Director of Sports and Recreation at Shangri-la Mactan Resort & Spa, proudly presents their “Adventures in Paradise” as a good option to consider. He emphasizes that the new features and facilities are not only there for the summer but for the whole-year round; and that everything is familyfriendly. “We do [well] with the kids,” he says, “but the teenagers could also find activities that would interest them. Safety is also our top priority; we have marshals, facilitators, and trainees who are trained in these activities.”

Sprawled across 400 meters of invigorating space, the flora-hedged Jogging Trail features numerous training stations for healthy pleasures. One may sweat it out on the stretch pole and balance pad, push-up bars, slack line balance beam, monkey bars, log hop, horizontal bars, body tuck and sit-and-reach bench, hand hop, set-up bench, stair stepper, zigzag balance walk and the body dips and reverse pull-up bars.

Meanwhile, the resort’s zip line offers enthusiasts a one-way ride above lush gardens as they zing across the 80-meter stretch in high spirits and take in spectacular views of the Mactan Channel.

For corporate teambuilding, arrangements may be customized to suit each company’s need. Groups in need of more adventure may also experience heightened excursions outdoors including a climb up a 32foot wall.

Teambuilding activities are also open for the hotel guests and the general public. There’s kayaking and snorkeling in the marine sanctuary, too.
