- — Jose P. Sollano

The Lapu- Lapu City government yesterday sponsored the party of a resident who celebrated her 100th birthday.

City Mayor Paz Radaza visited Pacita LapagAujero in her residence at Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase in Barangay Pajo, Lapu- Lapu City. Aujero is the fifth centenarian in the city. Food and drinks were brought to the house of Aujero by the City Hall employees and women who helped the city government in the implementation of the program.

Under the administration of Radaza, residents who are celebrating their 100th birthday will be given cash and thrown a simple birthday party.

Although the exact amount is not known, the cash given to the four other centenarians earlier was taken from Radaza's personal coffers, as well as from former congressman Arturo Radaza and their daughter Rep. Aileen Radaza.

Aujero is a native from Iloilo who arrived in Lapu-Lapu in 1985 since her husband was a veteran. They have five children, two of them deceased. Aujero said her husband died in 1986. Radaza said giving birthday party to those who reach 100 years will continue and she said they are working to give them incentives.

Radaza made a request to the city council to pass an ordinance giving centenarians P100,000 cash incentives, but the request is still pending.

The family of Aujero expressed their gratitude to Radaza and the city officials for the cash and the birthday party given to their mother.
