PAGASA weather forecaster Manny Mendoza told the PNA in a phone interview that Domeng will bring rains over the eastern part of the Visayas and Mindanao either Tuesday or Wednesday.

The tropical storm is likely to make a landfall somewhere between the Caraga region and Eastern Visayas, he said.

Mendoza said for yesterday’s forecast, the tail-end of a cold-front is affecting extreme Northern Luzon.

He said the tail-end of a cold front is the front boundary of two air masses which produces clouds and rain. He said that Cagayan Valley will have cloudy skies with scattered light rainshower­s and isolated thundersto­rms while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshower­s or thundersto­rms mostly in the afternoon or evening. PAGASA said in its advisory that moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon and the coastal waters along this area will be moderate to rough. It said winds elsewhere will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to east with slight to moderate seas. Saturday temperatur­es in Metro Manila rose to a high of 34.5 degrees Celsius at 1:50 p.m., and was coolest at 6 a.m. at 23.5 degrees. The weathercas­ter also said that the hottest temperatur­e that was

recorded in Metro Manila so far this year was 35.7 degrees Celsius last March 28.

On Saturday, the highest temperatur­e was recorded at 36.7 degrees Celsius in Subic, Zambales followed by 36.4 in Dagupan City in Pangasinan, then Sangley Point in Cavite recorded at 35.5, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija with 35.2 and 33.1 in Tuguegarao, Cagayan.

In the Visayas region, Maasin, Leyte recorded 33.3 degrees Celsius followed by Tagbilaran, Bohol and Mactan in Cebu with the same temperatur­e at 32.2 degrees Celsius. In the Mindanao area, General Santos City had 35.8 degrees Celsius followed by Davao at 34.4 degrees Celsius and Cotabato at 33.8.

But so far, the hottest temperatur­e in the country for this year was recorded in Tuguegarao at 37.9 degrees Celsius recorded last March 31.

Based on the PAGASA’s climatolog­ical record, the hottest temperatur­e in Metro Manila was recorded on May 14, 1987 at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
