Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital, Argao, Cebu

Congress on June 21, 1969 enacted Republic Act 5720, a law that designated government hospitals under the Department of Health as National District Hospitals. By virtue of the law, 81 district hospitals were designated and given official names. In Cebu, the district hospitals were identified and given names. In the 4th district, the "Cebu South General Hospital", was renamed "Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital". In the 7th district in the Municipali­ty of Daanbantay­an the hospital was officially called "Cebu North General Hospital."

Isidro was born on May 14,1915 in Talaytay, Argao, Cebu to spouses Carmiano Kintanar and Sofia Camasura. Isidro went to school at the Visayan Institute (now University of the Visayas) and became the editor of the school paper. He then went to the University of Manila to take up Bachelor of Laws in 1940. He was admitted to the Philippine Bar on June 7, 1946. Briefly practiced law, then became National Bureau of Investigat­ion Investigat­or from 1948 to 1952. He was elected mayor of Argao in 1952.

He was suspended as mayor of Argao by President Elpidio Quirino on an order dated April 18, 1952 sent to Executive Secretary Marciano Roque thru Governor Sergio V. Osmeña Jr.

Isidro then won as congressma­n of the old 4th district, Argao was then part thereof in the 1953 general elections, held on November 10 of that year. He replaced his brother Filomeno Camasura Kintanar, who was the district representa­tive from 1949 to 1953.

Isidro was the district's representa­tive from 1953 to 1969, he was reelected thrice.

Isidro married Fidele Acedero, one of their sons, Carmiano, namesake of Isidro's father, Carmiano A. Kintanar born on October 18, 1941 was the OIC mayor of Argao after the 1986 People Power Revolution. Carmiano ran for election in 1988 ( January 18), the first local election after Marcos was ousted as president. Carmiano lost to Daniel C. Sesaldo, the former came back in the 2004 elections, was elected as board member of the 2nd district ( Argao then became part of the 2nd district, when Cebu was divided into 8 congressio­nal districts, with 2 for Cebu City and six districts for the province). An earlier election for the senate, held on May 11, 1987 was conducted.

Before Isidro and Filomeno became congressme­n, another Kintanar, Agustin Kintanar, represente­d the district from 1934 to 1949. Still another Kintanar, Simeon Lucero Kintanar, was elected congressma­n of the 2nd district (formerly 4th district) in the 1998 elections.

Congressma­n Isidro Camasura Kintanar died on April 8, 1968.
