Over 3,000 students get help from Aboitiz Group

-

The Aboitiz Group, through its social development arm Aboitiz Foundation, has committed to support through scholarship grants and financial assistance over 3,000 students nationwide for the school year 20142015.

These scholars, ranging from preschool to college, are students who have academic potentials but no adequate resources.

More than 70 percent or around 2,000 of these scholars are from Cebu and are sponsored by the Foundation and Cebu-based Aboitiz companies such as Visayan Electric Co., Metaphil and Therma Visayas.

The remaining scholars from various parts of the country are supported by other business units like AP Renewables, Cotabato Light, Davao Light, Hedcor, Luzon Hydro, Pilmico Animal Nutrition, Pilmico Foods, Subic Enerzone, Therma Luzon and Therma Marine.

Aboitiz is also supporting students and out-of-school youth who are taking technical and vocational courses. These students and OSYs are presently enrolled at Banilad Center for Professional Development ( Cebu), Technical and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Don Bosco Agro- Mechanical Technology Center, Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise, and METAPHIL- TESDA Institute for Technical Training.

Since its scholarship began in 1993, the Group has already supported over 23,000 scholars across the country.

"We believe that our youth will lead our country to progress in the future as much as we believe that a good and quality education will help them achieve that," said Aboitiz Foundation Chief Operating Officer Sonny Carpio.

Aboitiz believes that the youth is the key to a better and more progressive Philippines and education remains to be its main thrust.

Every year, the Aboitiz Foundation allocates approximately 50% of its annual budget to various interventions in education, like constructing school buildings for public schools, offering a wide portfolio of scholarships and financial assistance to deserving students, computer and equipment donations, book donation drives and many others.

Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. is the corporate foundation of the Aboitiz Group. Established in 1988, it addresses the social and economic development needs of marginalized members of society. It implements corporate social responsibility interventions especially in areas where Aboitiz companies are located. The foundation focuses on three program components, namely education, enterprise development and environment.
