The City Intelligence Branch is reminding the public to be vigilant against suspicious persons during the Lenten season when devotees are expected to flock to different places for religious activities.

Superintendent Romeo Santander, CIB chief, said they are intensifying security since more people head to areas where religious activities are held, as well as to tourist destinations around the province.

Santander said based on their records in the past years, they have identified the areas where a number of crimes have been recorded during the Lenten season. But he said security improvements have been made in these areas this year.

But he reminded the public to be vigilant and cautious of the people around them.

Santander said that when attending religious events in public places, it’s not practical to bring electronic gadgets since they only attract the attention of thieves or robbers.

He is also reminding the public not to leave their homes unattended and that someone should be left behind to guard the house.

When leaving the house, jewelries, cash and gadgets must be placed in a secured location.

Santander said if nobody is left in the house, all doors and windows should be properly locked.

Setting up an alarm system and closed circuit television cameras may also help drive burglars away, he added.
