Tabunok fire victims get aid

Fire victims in Sitio Dauis- Nonoc, Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City yesterday received financial assistance from the city government’s social services program.

Felipa Solana, city social welfare and developmen­t officer, validated that there were 22 families in the sitio whose homes and properties were damaged.

Of the 22, four were house sharers while t hree houses were partially damaged.

Mayor Johnny De los Reyes and Solana l ed t he simple distributi­on ceremony yesterday.

Families whose homes were totally damaged received P10,000 each while those whose homes were partially damaged received P8,000 each.

House sharers or renters with partially damaged homes received P3,000 from the city.

Solana said the assistance is part of the social support provided by the city government to residents and families in distress following calamities and disasters.

Last February 12, at least 30 houses were burned down after a fire struck Sitio Dauis-Nonoc, located about a kilometer from the main highway.

The fire department declared the fire under Task Force Alpha after discoverin­g that the area could not be easily penetrated by fire trucks.

Damage was estimated at P150,000. Most of the houses were made of light materials.
