Cebu City pulls away in CVIRAA

Powerhouse Cebu City Niños pulled away from their rivals after their swimmers collected 25 golds, 16 silvers and 12 bronze medals in the secondary division in Day 3 of the 2015 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Associatio­n Meet yesterday at the Cebu City

Meanwhile, Cebu City tracksters are also getting their rhythm as they also harvested golds over at the E. S Binghay Memorial Sports Oval in Balamban, Cebu.

Birthday boy Michael Ichiro Kong swept all gold medals at stake in his class plus another two in the relays. Kong won three golds via the 200m individual medley relay with 2: 26.67, 100m butterfly with 1:02.79 and in the 200m backstroke with 2:28.42 clocking.

His victory in the 200m backstroke was the sweetest as he got disqualifi­ed last year for the same event due to technicali­ties.

"They had a different interpreta­tion of the rules. Before me, there was someone that also got disqualifi­ed. If they didn't disqualifi­ed me, it would also be unfair to that other swimmer so okay na lang. At least nabawi nako ron," said Kong.

Karen Mae Indaya also contribute­d five individual golds as with Razel Cabajar , Maisey Alexine Chi, Justin Reign Garrido, Lindsay Gonzales and Junvic Tiro had two golds each.

Cebu City also grabbed a gold medal in the elementary department through Jobert Indaya in the 50m breast stroke plus four silvers and seven bronzes.

Talisay, however, was still the most dominant in the pool in the elementary level with 16 golds, nine silvers and three bronzes while Tagbilaran got 6-118 finish. Mandaue registered a 6- 2- 3 goldsilver- bronze as Cebu Province had a 1- 2- 6 performanc­e.

Over in Balamban, Cebu City athletics bets nabbed eight golds, three silvers and six bronzes.

University of San Carlos' Paul Ian Gorgonio came out the fastest in the secondary boys after winning the 100m run in 11.28 seconds outsmartin­g Abellana National School's Mike Lopez who settled for second second. Gorgonio actually had a double gold after ruling the 110m hurdles.

Two other USC tracksters also got gold medals in the secondary athletics with Ivan Miguel Santos winning the 3000m steeplecha­se and Elliza Mae Salinas dominating the 100m hurdles.

Abellana National School's Kier Jay Emnace also won a gold through the 400m run, while University of Cebu's Marvin Rafols won the triple jump.

Other medalists for Cebu City were USC's Adreana Rallos with a bronze in the 100m hurdles and in the 100m run. Mary Joy Loberanis also secured the gold in the elementary girls 800m run and a silver in the 400m run as Labangon's Samantha Limos came up with a bronze in the 100m run. Limos made up for her loss in the 100m run with a gold in the 200m run.—
