A Refreshing Patch of Nature

- Anna Rose S. Carnecer Masscom Student, University of the Visayas

A few weeks ago, my cousin and I went out to refresh our mind and spirit. We were curious about this Rainforest Park Cebu in Panagdait, Mabolo. We'd earlier learned about it, and were fascinated to know that there was such a place right within the city proper.

But, honestly, I was a bit intimidated at first. A privately operated park right in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a metropolitan city made me think of an expensive entrance fee. Which could really hurt the budget of a student like me.

To my surprise, the park was budget-friendly. It only took us a few pesos and we were already there viewing the Oceanarium, the Mini Zoo, the Jungle Adventure and the Amazon's Aviary, with different species of fish, colorful birds and, of course, the star of all - monkeys. There was also the Oasis Fish Spa, where park visitors could relax their tired feet after going around the place.

A jungle- inspired snack bar served refreshments, or even a filling meal. A gift shop was also in place, where visitors could pick up a keepsake that reflects the character of the park. Not to miss to mention that the whole park was a wi-fi zone.

Incidentally, Rainforest Park Cebu also accepts bookings for functions and events, like birthday celebration, debut party, seminar, meeting and such. There's ample parking space and 24/ 7 security personnel, complemented by strategically positioned CCTV cameras. And there's no flooding in the rainforest - no matter how hard it rains - as the place is equipped with a very well designed underground drainage system.

The lush greenery and creatively crafted landscape makes one easily forget the flat concrete floors and walls that characterize this modern city. There are fountains and waterfalls in this man-made forest that's regularly sprinkled with artificial rain. And it's convenient to go around - or sit around - with all the path walks, granite benches and an old- fashioned wooden swing.

Garden lamps and lamp posts are ready, as well, for when the sunlight dims. The restrooms are clean and spacious, almost of five-star resort standard. A visit to Rainforest Park Cebu is really a delight - to replenish worn spirits, or heal bruised feelings. Here, one experiences the kind of serenity that only the beauty of nature can bring. And it's

right within the city.
