The Art of Anthony Fermin

- By YASUNARI RAMON SUAREZ TAGUCHI

A selection of works by visual artist Anthony Fermin were on display in two venues in the metro – in the Ethos Bloc Café at the 4th floor of the Ethos Bloc building along A.S. Fortuna in Mandaue, and in Canvas Bistro Bar & Gallery at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.

There until the end of February, the two Sinulogthemed shows showcased the compositional flair the artist is well-known for – who has built a reputation for playfully rendered works that are livid with life as perceived by the artist’s discerning eye.

With each work crafted as a story that entertains and elevates the spirit, the featured works of the two exhibits were not static eyecandy pieces – as they were evocative of Fermin’s balanced view on how color and its absence can effectively convey sentiments and emotions; a creative feat which Fermin has mastered as a forte.

Though the underlying theme of the two shows was anchored on the Sinulog – their overall execution bared a timeless quality that nods to the timeless x-factor that is always experienced in grand festivals and celebrations.

Born in 1976, Anthony Fermin has long been respected as one of the Visayas’ top artistic talents, with a sense of passion and optimism mirrored in his works. With no formal training on the rudiments and dynamics that are involved in crafting art pieces, Fermin’s multi-disciplinary approach in the creation of art spans more than 15 years to date, earning him his share of local and international distinctions.
