Water, blood pressure stations requested to fight heat stroke
With the weather anticipated to go even hotter, the City Council has asked the Metropolitan Cebu Water District to provide free potable water stations in public bus and jeepney terminals located in the city.
The Council also asked the Department of Health and the City Health Department to set up blood pressure stations in all terminals in the city.
In a resolution the Council approved, Councilor Alvin Dizon said no less than the Philippine Atmo- spheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has confirmed that the country is experiencing mild El Niño.
“One of the risk factors for the development of heat stroke includes inadequate water intake especially in hot environment and the precautions to take to prevent heat stroke is to drink extra fluids and to be conscious on the rise of the body’s blood pressure,” his resolution reads. “I think this is a good proposal kay during Sinulog, ang MCWD mobutang man og water stations so nganong dili man nato buhaton karon nga kinahanglan man pod especially karong summer nga grabi kainit?” he said.
Dizon said that while the city cannot compel the agencies, he is hoping that they will grant the requests for the benefit of the public.
“Unless kon ordinance siya, pwede gyod ta makapugos, but I don’t think dili sila mosugot kay for the public man pod ni,” he said.
