A suspected drug pusher attempted to escape from roving policemen but was arrested at Sitio Kangitngit, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City Saturday evening.

Leonilo Baroro, 30, was apprehended for possession of illegal drugs by the elements of the City Intelligence Branch who were patrolling in the area.

Senior Police Officer 1 Artesio Monroid, who was among those who arrested Baroro, said that while they were patrolling within the area, they noticed the suspect run away upon seeing the police.

Monroid said that a brief chase between Baroro and the police took place. Baroro was then arrested in the interior portion in the area.

“Pagkabantay niya namo tingali, midagan man. Daghan man mi so na- corner namo siya,” Monroid said.

The police seized a small plastic container from Baroro with 22 small packs of suspected shabu. Each pack is reportedly sold at P300.

Monroid said that based on their records and the information they received from the residents in the area, Baroro is engaged in illegal drug trade.

Monroid said that Baroro was about to sell drugs at the time of the incident.

CIB deputy chief, Inspector Gomersendo Mandawe said that Baroro possibly already had an idea about the roving policemen prior the arrest. Mandawe said that they saw a text message from the Baroro’s cell phone stating “Pagbantay mo diha kay naa’y taga-CIB nga moanha diha.”

Mandawe said that the message could have been a text to Baroro and other drug peddlers in the area.

He said that they are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine who sent the message to Baroro. He said that it could be possible that the message came from their colleague in the office or someone from the police camp who knew about their operation.

Baroro is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office and will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
